How to choose a theory test app
The short answer
Look at what each app covers, where its questions come from, and how it is priced. DriveQuiz writes its own questions from The Highway Code and GOV.UK with AI help and checks them against those sources, but it does not include hazard perception practice. If you want hazard perception clips, you need an app or materials that include them.

A buyer’s checklist
Choosing a theory test app is a purchase like any other. Read the details before you pay. These questions help you compare apps without rushing.
- Does it cover both parts? Hazard perception needs video clips, so check whether the app includes them.
- Where do the questions come from? Do the answers explain the rule, or only mark you right or wrong?
- Is the price one-off, or a subscription that renews? If it renews, find out how to cancel.
- Does it offer a pass guarantee? Read the conditions.
- Does it show ads or use in-app currency?
- What does it do with your data?
- Does it say when it was last updated?
Where questions come from
The DVSA licenses its revision questions and hazard perception clips to other publishers. Using them without a licence is a criminal offence. The GOV.UK page "Make and sell driving theory test revision products" explains the rules for publishers.
This is why the source of the questions matters when you compare apps. Check that the answers explain the rule, not only the right letter.
