How a game works

  1. Start a game

One person opens the app, picks a topic like road signs, and gets a game code.

  2. Everyone joins

Friends and family type the code on their own phones, or join in their browser without the app. Up to 8 players, nicknames only.

  3. Answer together

The same question shows up on every phone at once. Then everyone sees the right answer and a one-line reason why.

  4. Play again

A 10-question game takes a few minutes. The winner takes first place; everyone gets a list of what to practice.

More about playing together

Your state, your permit test

There is no single national permit test. Each state’s driver licensing agency, often called the DMV, writes its own knowledge test and driver handbook. Road signs are the exception: every state follows the national sign manual (the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, or MUTCD), or a state version that closely matches it.

This website has 45 different questions: a 25-question all-states test and a 40-question Texas mock that shares 20 of them. Our checked US bank has 279 questions. The DriveQuiz app is coming soon with the full bank, live games and saved progress with Pro.

Texas is the first state DriveQuiz covers. Read the Texas permit test explained and take the free Texas practice test. For every other state, our permit practice test covers what all states share: signs, signals, markings and the rules of the road that hold everywhere. We add a state only once its questions are checked against that state’s own laws and handbook.

For parents of teen drivers

You don’t need to remember the handbook to help. Play a round at the kitchen table, see which questions your teen gets wrong, and talk them through. No chat with strangers, no ads, and the paid upgrade is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
